The Book
The Book is a spiral I keep in the classroom at all times. If a student breaks a rule, interrupts class, comes to class unprepared, doesn't complete their Reading Log, doesn't have their BOBCAT, etc. they will have to sign The Book and explain why they have signed it.
Inside the BOBCAT, there is a behavior sheet that will come home every day. Any important information or parent contact can be make on this form. I will check it every MONDAY morning for the previous week's signatures.
On Friday afternoons 4th grade will have a Free Recess at the end of the day. If a student has signed The Book more than two times, they will not be allowed to participate. Instead, they will sit on the wall and reflect about the poor choices they made during the week.
If a student repeatedly signs the Book they will be sent to the office to explain their transgressions to Mr. B.
Talking Essays
Talking is an important part of life and I agree that students need to talk to one another. There is a time for talking and talking during instruction or during a test is NOT the time. Students will have plenty of time throughout the day to get their thoughts out. If a student chooses to talk at an inappropriate time, they will be assigned a talking essay along with a signature in the book.

Respect Essays
Fostering an atmosphere of respect is one of the most important things I attempt to teach all of my students. We MUST be respectful of all students, teachers, and visitors. If a student chooses to be disrespectful, they will be instructed to write a Respect Essay and sign the Book.
